Cookscape kitchen, manufacturer and supplier of modular kitchens is planning to set up 50 showrooms in the country by 2008. Cookscape opened its first shop in the city last week at CG Road. |
"At present, Cookscape has 15 showrooms in the country. We are planning to have a total of 50 showrooms by the end of 2008. After Ahmedabad, Surat will be the next destination for us. We already have outlets in Chennai, New Delhi and Pune," said K Chandrasekaran, CEO, Cookscape. |

The company has received proposals to open showrooms in Surat, Mumbai, Jodhpur and Jaipur. Plans are also afloat to put up four showrooms in Mumbai, two more in New Delhi and one more in Ahmedabad, he said. |

Talking to Business Standard, R Srinivasan, vice-president of the company, said, "The concept of modular kitchen has just begun to gain ground in India. Only five per cent as compared to 99 per cent in the western countries and 70 per cent in the far eastern continents. Therefore, this is an emerging market with a huge potential." |

The new Cookscape showroom is spread over 3,600 sq ft of area with an investment of Rs 35-40 lakh. |

"We are also opening another showroom at C G Road which will be spread across 2,000 sq ft area with an investment of Rs 55 lakh. Talks are on to open our showroom in Surat probably on a 1000 sq ft area with an investment of around Rs 11 lakh," he said. |

The price of the modular kitchen starts around Rs 60,000 per 10 running feet of wall and floor cabinets for the economic kind of laminated kitchen up to Rs 1.50 lakh for the teak modular kitchen. |

The company's turnover for the modular kitchen this year was around Rs 25 crore and is expecting a turnover of Rs 100 crore by next year. It is also planning to come out with a new concept called Renovation Kitchen. |

"Considering the huge demand for renovating old kitchens and replacing it with the modular ones, we are in the process of implementing the project soon," said Srinivasan. |
