The industrial units in Orissa having captive power plants of their own paid Rs 706.61crore electricity duty to the state government in the last 5 years.
There are 45 industries in the state which have captive power plants (CPPs) and these units combinedly generated 141636.5 million units between 2004-05 and 2008-09, according to state energy minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.
The industries with CPP are National Aluminium Company (Angul), Iffco (Paradeep), IMFA (Choudwar), Arati Steel Ltd. (Ghantikhal ), Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys (Meramundali), Idcol Kalinga Iron Works (Matkambeda, Keonjhar), PPL (Paradeep), Birla Tyres (Balasore), Jindal Stainless Steel Ltd. (Duburi), Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd.(Duburi), Adhunik Metalliks (Kuarmunda) and Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) among others.
These companies paid Rs 161.2 crore as electricity duty in 2004-05 which increased to Rs 197.2 crore in 2005-06.
