Craftsvilla raises $18 million

Craftsvilla.com, an online marketplace for ethnic products, has secured $18 million in Series-B funding, led by Sequoia Capital. Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and GFC participated. "Craftsvilla.com has brought the traditionally disorganised ethnic craft sector to a structured platform," said Sandeep Singhal, managing director, Nexus India Capital Advisors

Simplilearn raises $15 million
Technology education firm Simplilearn has raised $15 million (about Rs 95 crore) in Series-C funding, led by Mayfield, along with from Kalaari Capital and Helion Venture Partners. Simplilearn offers training and certifications for business use and career advancement, It will use the money to further develop its mobile platform and expand in the US and other primary markets

Coverfox.com raises $12 million

Glibberbug Technologies, a Mumbai-based technology start-up that runs online insurance selling platform Coverfox, has raised Rs 75 crore (around $12 million) in a Series-B funding from Accel US, Accel India and SAIF Partners. Co-founded in 2011 by Varun Dua, a former employee of Franklin Templeton, and Devendra Rane, an IIT-Bombay alumnus, Coverfox, which sells home, automobile, health and travel insurance products, proposes to deploy the fresh round of funds in expanding its insurance product portfolio and add features to its technology platform

Avanti Learning raises $1.5 million
Avanti Learning Centres, a Delhi-based test preparation start-up, has raised $1.5 million (approximately Rs 9.6 crore) in a Series-A round of funding, led by the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF), with participation from existing investor Pearson Affordable Learning Fund (PALF). The company proposes to utilise the funding to increase its presence in tier-II and -III towns. According to the company, Ted Dintersmith and Draper Richards from Kaplan Foundation joined PALF and MSDF as second round co-investors in Avanti.
