In tune with its strategy to diversify its product portfolio, homegrown FMCG major Dabur India plans to foray into the milk segment to tap the Rs 100 crore milk-based beverages market.The company, which sells fruit & vegetable juice under the Fresh brand, is exploring the possibility of entering the milk based drink segment but has not set any time frame to roll out a product in the category."We are exploring the option of entering value-added milk-based beverage market, but no time-frames have yet been set for this foray. We are currently exploring the market," a company spokesperson told PTI.Dabur would be the latest entrant into the segment after global beverage giants, Pepsi and Coke, announced their plans to tap milk-based drinks market in India.The company is presently looking for outsourcing milk as it has made it clear that it will limit itself to the value added milk based beverages and has no plans to enter into fresh milk and in the dairy segment."Dabur India has no plans to enter the pure milk and dairy segment," he said.The past few months have been witnessing heightened activity in the flavoured milk category by the two major players, Nestle and Amul.Besides, other players such as Britannia, Mother Dairy, Parle and regional firms like Vijaya, Aarey and Delhi-based Paras group, are also working on expanding their flavoured milk offerings.
