Dabur India is mulling producing high-quality honey at a high-tech processing plant to be set up in the Kullu valley of Himachal Pradesh.

Company officials said the plant could be set up soon at Tegubehar where Dabur is in the process of buying land from the Himachal government.

"We will also train locals in the art of bee-keeping and buy raw honey and process it at our plant," said SR Saini, project head of Dabur.

"We will also multiply queen bees and distribute them among farmers so that they can take up bee-keeping in a big way," he said. "The Kullu valley has a huge potential for producing top-quality honey which we want to tap," he added.

The exact cost of the plant isn't known at this stage.

Earlier this summer, Sant Agriculture, a sister concern of Dabur, carried out successful experiments in the state by raising and distributing a new breed of bees in Kullu and the adjoining Lahaul valley and gathered around 2,500 quintals of high-quality honey.

This encouraged Dabur to set up the honey plant in the region.
