Dainik Jagran, Times of India lead IRS

The Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Round 1 data for 2007 has placed Dainik Jagran, Times of India, Malayala Manorama and Saras Salil as leaders in the average issue readership across categories. The survey was conducted by Media Research User's Council (MRUC).
 
The survey, conducted between January and December 2006, reveals that among the top ten English dailies, Times of India comes first with a readership of 67,810,00, followed by Hindustan Times with 33,31,000. The Hindu comes in third with a readership of 22,09,000.
 
The others on the list are Deccan Chronicle (13,11,000), The Telegraph (9,19,000), The Economic Times (7,74,000), Mumbai Mirror (7,35,000), DNA (5,39,000), The Tribune (5,39,000), Mid-Day (English - 5,09,000), Deccan Herald (all editions - 4,98,000). Among the top 10 Hindi dailies, Dainik Jagran occupies the leading position with a readership of 17,114,000, followed by Dainik Bhaskar (12,514,000), Hindustan, Amar Ujala and Rajasthan Patrika.
 
Malayala Manorama has the maximum readership of 88,37,000 among the regional dailies (apart from Hindi and English), followed by Daily Thanthi, Eeanadu,
 
Mathrubhumi, Lokmat and others. The south clearly occupies the top readership slots, with three Malayalam magazines in the top 10.
 
The Top 10 magazines genre is led by two fortnightlies, Hindi magazine Saras Salil with a readership of 47,60,000 and Malayalam magazine at 30,67,000. English monthly, India Today occupies the third position with a readership of 27,86,000.
 
As far as television viewership is concerned, DD National leads the race, followed by Star Plus and Aaj Tak. Zee TV is ranked seventh in the pecking order, while Sony TV is placed number nine. A regional channel such as Sun TV is ahead of Zee TV, while even Gemini TV is ahead of Sony TV.
