Dental stem cell bank opened

Stemade Biotech, country’s first private dental stem cell bank, is planning to open a research and development (R&D) centre, with an investment of Rs 40-60 crore by next year.

The company was looking at Pune and Hyderabad for setting up the R&D centre, Stemade managing director Shailesh Gadre said launching its fifth dental stem cell bank here today.

The dental stem cell bank provides options to store a child’s stem cells from the milk tooth and from the wisdom tooth for the adults.

Stemade’s dental stem cell bank service is available at 15 clinics each at Mumbai and Delhi, and at 6-8 clinics each in Pune and Bangalore. In Hyderabad, the service is available at six clinics. The cost of preservation of dental stem cells is up to Rs 1 lakh. It costs around Rs 60,000 for initial processing and additional Rs 6,000 per annum for storage.
