Reliance Industries Ltd chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani on Saturday stressed on the importance of Reliance Infocomm, the group's telecommunications foray, stating that Reliance will fulfill the vision of Dhirubhai Ambani's vision of empowering men and women by making information technology (IT) and communication tools available at affordable prices. |
"Reliance Infocomm is committed to building a knowledge-led India and DA-IICT is committed to produce high quality professional resources to meet this goal," said Mukesh, while speaking at the first convocation ceremony of DA-IICT in Gandhinagar on Saturday. |

Invoking the name of his father Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh said Dhirubhai was aware of the importance of IT and communications and the need for empowering men and women with tools of infocomm. |
Mukesh has a special mention of gratitude to DA-IICT board of governors member Hasmukh Shah, who he said convinced Dhirubhai to have DA-IICT named after him. |
"Even I could not convince my father on that. In fact, this institution is indebted to Shah, who always told my father that he must do something in the field of education," said Mukesh. |
Shifting his focus back to Reliance Infocomm, Mukesh said the company will be the driving force in the future that will serve as a catalyst in enhancing productivity. In his convocation address, Kapil Sibal, union minister of state for science and technology and ocean development, said Dhirubhai was a man of vision and DA-IICT is an outcome of his vision. |
"Technology is changing and evolving at a great speed and its applications are increasing at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The new world economic order is emerging on the basis of intellectual capital and not financial capital," said Sibal. |
He emphasised on the need for a new system of learning, where knowledge age workers are developed. He added that the major challenge is now to constantly reinvent ourselves to use new knowledge avenues. Sibal also gave away medals to toppers in different educational disciplines of the institute. |
