Delhi International Airport's (DIAL) IT system has received a certification against IT breaches and security. The certification reaffirms that an organisation is compliant with its software licence agreements.
The airport claims that it is the first airport in the world to secure the BSA (Business Software Alliance) Certification in Standards-based Software Asset Management (SAM) for organisations, a program known as CSS(O).
For a passenger this means that their travel will become more secure through genuine software ensuring timely and accurate display of flight information, smooth baggage checking process, secured wi-fi usage inside the terminal, prevention of malware and pirated software.
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India and KPMG assisted DIAL employees and new recruits to understand their roles and responsibilities through the software asset management by circulating educational emails and posters. DIAL has now made it mandatory for licence documents to be handed over when the projects reach operational stage. This has helped DIAL streamline its software lifecycle from procurement to retirement.
Through this, DIAL has been able to regularise the usage of licences and reduce costs by up to 20% for all software licences.
“New software requests are now considered in terms of functionality, instead of product specifications, and licences are accordingly reused or purchased. This single practice has helped downsize yearly licence costs by as much as 30%,” said I Prabhakara Rao, CEO DIAL.
