The concept of ‘digital classroom’, wherein conventional teaching is aided by technology-based learning, is growing fast among the private schools in India. According to an estimate, about 15,000 schools of the over 1,50,000 private schools across the country have either fully or partially adopted ‘digital classroom’ system in their campuses.
“The segment is expanding fast,” according to education technology solutions provider Mexus Education director Anil Goyal. “It is clocking almost 100 per cent growth,” he told Business Standard here.
To convert a conventional classroom into a digital one, the expert said, it requires investment that could vary from Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh for one classroom for five years. “This translates into about Rs 4,500 per month and for one student, the additional cost is under Rs 100,” he added.
A digital classroom is equipped with IT-learning tools to enhance quality of teaching through digital content, animation, concept simulators, interactive and activity-based learning.
Mexus has about 2,200 schools under its network, including 150 schools in Uttar Pradesh spanning all major towns. “We are now covering smaller and tier-3 towns, where the response has been quite encouraging,” Goyal added.
Promoted by Bilakhia Group, Mumbai-based Mexus has presence in South East Asia, the UAE and Canada.
