Global digital storage major Western Digital (WD) is targetting Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Uttar Pradesh. The company produces hard disk drives and solid state drives for consumers, SMEs and enterprises.
"UP is one of the largest states in India and has a huge base of end users, system integrators, channel partners and resellers. Accordingly, we are increasing our focus on SMEs with launch of our new range of hard disk drives," WD senior sales director Khwaja Saifuddin Ahmad said here.
Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Agra and Meerut are the primary markets driving the demand for consumer storage solutions in UP.
The company is ramping up its presence in the state through a wider distribution network and retailers, including shop-in-shops.
"UP has a strong service sector and houses some of the best educational institutions in India. Cities like Lucknow, Kanpur and Varanasi boast of sizeable number of students, which translates in to a high adoption level of storage products," he added.

He said consumers in UP were increasingly opting for high capacity hard disks, which would only increase going forward.
"One Terabyte (TB) capacity drives account for the majority of hard drives sold in UP, which is higher than the national average capacity of 500 Gigabyte (GB)," he claimed.
Meanwhile, the company is also working towards increasing its visibility to customers through road shows, conferences and product demonstrations.
"We have planned a multiple city tour spanning major cities in India to showcase our range of products," he said.
