The direct selling fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) segment is growing faster in Uttar Pradesh compared to markets in other states.
Segment leader Amway India today said it was growing by 35 per cent in Uttar Pradesh vis-à-vis 27 per cent pan-India.
“UP has been a key driver in our growth and contributed Rs 115 crore to our northern region turnover of Rs 434 crore in 2010,” Amway Vice-President (North) Bhuvan Kapur told newspersons here.
Amway’s current turnover stands at Rs 1,800 crore. It is eyeing Rs 2,500 revenues in 2012. “We are expanding our product portfolio in India and offering products to cater different consumer segments for higher growth,” he added.
Kapur said the direct selling space in the country was estimated at Rs 7,000 crore by 2012-13.
He further said Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA) had demanded, the Central government framed laws to regulate the segment for protecting the interests of consumers and genuine companies.
“There is an urgent need to regulate the sector and create awareness regarding consumer rights,” he noted.
