With a view on its pan India plans, the DLF group is all set to make inroads into Gujarat by way of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot.

The company is scouting for land in all the four cities to set up malls, townships and hotels.

Talks are on with the real estate dealers in Ahmedabad and sources close to the development revealed that land at Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway and interior areas of the city are being scouted for malls and hotels.

"As part of our nationwide expansion, we plan to come up with a mall and are seeking for a suitable spread of lands in Gujarat," according to an official of DLF.

"In next six months, we will have zeroed in on the locations at all the four cities," the official added.

The land required for malls would be between 5-10 lakh sq feet.

"There will be a lot of entertainment and will be designed specifically as per the requirements of the city. The malls will cater to retail and theatre facilities," the official said.

With over 17 million sq. ft of ongoing retail projects under development, DLF retail is paving way to establish over 100 malls featuring close to 500 cinema screens spread over some 60 cities, in the next four to five years.

DLF is also set to float a hotel company in about a month's time.

"In Gujarat, we plan to set up hotels along with malls. They will be of international class business hotels. The first hotel will be set in DLF City, Gurgaon. The hotel in Ahmedabad is likely to come up in the interior part of the city," he added.

"Once DLF affirms its position in commercial complexes, plans are afoot to build a township," he further said.

Sources close to the development said the township by DLF Home Developers is likely to cost anywhere over Rs 1,000 crore and for this the SG Highway is being seriously considered in Ahmedabad. "Given the fact that DLF has very good assests, we are not driven by budget provided we hit upon a good location," the official informed.

The townships are being planned for all four selected cities of Gujarat and work will be initiated within two year's time.

Till date, DLF has completed and under development projects of over 207 million sq feet across its residential, commercial and retail businesses.
