Dolphin Milk Products Private Limited, a private dairy in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, has forayed into the Mumbai market. The company has tied up with a Mumbai-based private milk hawker for supply of milk to the Mumbai market.

"This year we are expecting a 25 per cent growth in milk procurement. Keeping this in mind, we are scouting for new markets to sell our product. Accordingly, we have tied-up with Mumbai-based Palewala Milk Products for supply of milk," M Appa Rao, Dolphin Milk Products, told Business Standard. The company has been supplying milk to Orissa and Kolkata markets for the last few years.

"We have agreed to supply about 34,000 litres of milk per week to Palewala, and our first consignment of about 17,000 litres has already been sent," Rao said.

Dolphin dairy has about 750 milk collection points in Visakhapatnam and Vizainagaram districts, and a few milk points in East Godavari district too.

"By the end of this fiscal, we intend to increase these collection points to 1,000 and expect our milk collection to go up to 60,000-70,000 litres a day," he added. During last fiscal, Dolphin's average daily milk collection was about 40,000 litres and this year, the company is expecting to touch 55,000-60,000 litres.

"We have been supplying about 15,000 litres of milk a day to Vijaya dairy, and sell about 15,000 litres per day under Dolphin brand in and around Visakhapatnam. Apart from this, between September, 2004 and March 2005, we supplied 20,000 litres milk per day to Kolkata-based Metro dairy and Orissa-based Omfed (Orissa Milk Federation)," he stated.

Dolphin dairy also supplies milk to other dairies in Andhra including Visakha milk base, which markets milk under Revathi brand, Hyderabad-based Jyothi Dairy, Agri Gold and Pratap Dairy.
