Public broadcaster Doordarshan, which has exclusive telecast rights of the Beijing Olympics in India, today said it is confident of generating "significant" advertisement revenue from the sporting extravaganza.

A top Prasar Bharati official said it has offered "very attractive" packages to the sponsors and the response from big advertising spenders has been "satisfactory" so far.
Samsung, which is a global sponsor of the Olympics, BSNL, LIC, Maruti, Indian Oil and Ministry of Rural Development, Amul, Lenovo, so far have come on board as sponsors, Prasar Bharati's Marketing Division Director Sukhjinder Kaur told PTI here.  "We are trying to offer best possible coverage and putting our best effort to market the greatest sporting event in the world in a better way," she said.

The official said 11 stations, comprising 76 employees, have been set up at various venues of the Games to ensure "most extensive coverage" of the events featuring Indian players.

Asked whether Prasar Bharati will be able to make profit from the event, she said the "investment has been huge" and the broadcaster was not expecting to generate the entire amount.

However, the official said she was confident of making better advertising revenue compared to the Athens Olympics.

Prasar Bharati had bought exclusive rights of the event for India for USD 3 million.  Kaur said Doordarshan was also looking at "spot buyers" for generating revenue as the event was a great opportunity for companies to improve their brand image.
