Dunlop inducts 1202 workmen

Dunlop India Limited has inducted 1202 workmen as permanent employees in its Sahaganj unit.
 
The workmen were former workers of the company, and all were on the company's rolls when the former management under the Chhabria family closed down the plant.
 
It was taken over by Pawan Kumar Ruia, also promoter of Jessop, The Ruia management, in its agreement with the trade unions, had committed to take in only 1179 workmen.
 
However, considering the immediate growth plans for the Sahaganj unit, the management decided to increase the number to 1236 after completing absorption of the agreed 1179, the Ruia group said in a statement.
 
Taking casual workers into account, the company's Sahaganj unit was now providing livelihood to over 1600 workers.
 
The Sahaganj plant started operations seven days a week from last Sunday, October 14.
 
Commenting on the development, Ruia, as chairman of Dunlop, said, "We would like to see Dunlop operating 24 hours a day and 7 days a week."
 
On October 14, Sahaganj also witnessed daylong walk-in interviews for technical positions at various levels of the plant.
 
Out of the 1000-odd candidates interviewed on that day, 81 candidates had already been issued appointment letters, while a further 170 had been selected for absorption in phases in the next few weeks.
