Durgapur Steel Nets Higher Export Earnings

Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) recorded its highest-ever exports netting of over Rs 140 crore from 1.21 lakh tonne of steel.

Company officials said exports were made mainly to south-Asian countries in the previous fiscal. The plant has orders for around 90,000 tonne for the first quarter, of which it has already despatched 22,000 tonne in April.

The plant mainly exports CC billets besides rolled billets and TMT bars. Last year, DSP exported to Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Thailand. The orders this year have come mainly from Myanmar, Nepal and the far eastern countries.

Official sources indicated that the plant has chalked out a multi-pronged strategy for generating net margin.

It plans to enhance the production to around 10 per cent of the rated capacity, reduce the operating costs by going in for stringent cost reduction and control measures and produce as per the market demand.
