E-City launches expansion drive

E-City Entertainment (I) private Ltd. which runs the Fun Republic and Fun Multiplex Ltd. plans to expand. To this end, the company has launched a training school named Fun School of Cinema, Hospitality and Retail (FSCHR) in Gurgaon.
 
The first of its kind in India, the school will cater to the demand of trained manpower at the entry level in the retail and cinema sector. The course has been designed on internationally recognised norms and would have a 70:30 ratio of practical and theory and includes a six month paid training segment.
 
Speaking to Business Standard, JS Jolly, senior vice-president, Chandigarh and Panipat, Fun Republic said the minimum eligibility for an aspirant was 12th standard.
 
"We would enrol 50 students in the first batch of the one year program which begins this month and award them a Diploma in Professional Excellence on the completion of the course," Jolly said. He added that AICTE certification would be taken through the Haryana government.
 
Another course spread over one and a half year for supervisory posts will enrol only 10 students to ensure quality education. "We will ensure 100 percent absorption of our students," said Jolly. Besides the school, the E City group also plans to expand by building screens in more cities and by introducing new technology.
 
Under the brand name of Fun Cinema , 140 new multiplexes will come in 35 locations across the country. With screens in Chandigarh, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi, operations would be started soon in locations like Panipat followed by Ambala, Kalka Highway ( Amravati Enclave), two in Ludhiana , Jaipur, Chandigarh,Jammu and Delhi .
 
"Amritsar and Jalandhar are the other two places where the project is in pipeline,"said Jolly.
 
"We are looking at mini metro with the option of single screen and hope to revolutionize the industry by bringing new technology like digital cinema in the region,"Jolly added.
 
Fun Republic which already operates three entertainment centres at Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Chandigarh sees Lucknow and Coimbatore as the cities where it would set up shop next.
