Easy Bill, a privately held division of the Rs 10,000-crore Hero Group, is in the advanced stages of striking a series of deals with electricity utility companies.

It is most likely that Easy Bill will begin its electricity bill collection service in Gujarat for the first time.

The company is also in talks with Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) and Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL) for outsourcing its electricity bill payment job to Easy Bill.

"The MGVCL and DGVCL have agreed to our proposal, and it is just a matter of two months that the deal will be finalised," Dhaval Jarmarwala, head of Gujarat operations, Easy Bill, told Business Standard.

The company expect that it will start providing service of electricity bill collection to MGVCL and DGVCL by first week of May this year.

After finalisation of the deal with both companies, Easy Bill will be able to provide electricity bill collection and payment service in Vadodara and the outskirts of Surat district.

The company has also initiated talks for a possible tie-up with Torrent Power for a similar service to its customers in Ahmedabad. However,

Torrent Power has also expressed its intention to get Easy Bill's service for its Surat operations.

"With our operations beginning in the next two weeks at Surat, we hope to extend our services to Torrent Power also," said Jarmarwala. The company expects to close a deal with Torrent Power by end of May.

Moreover, Jarmarwala stated that their talks with BSNL will soon get materialised too, adding, "By the end of April, we hope to begin accepting BSNL's postpaid bill payment" Easy Bill enables consumers to pay utility bills either by cash or cheque at select retail shops acting as a one-stop collection point for all kinds of bill payments.

Consumers will be charged a nominal fee for the same. These collection points will be linked up and connected to a database, which will make it possible to track all receipts online.

The company is in the process of starting its operation in Surat, Rajkot and Bhavnagar within next one month.
