"We are currently evaluating. Options are wide open - setting up a greenfield plant or going for acquisition. Nothing is out of question," Eaton India's Managing Director Shyam Kambeyanda said.

Disclosing further details on the acquisition plan, Kambeyanda said that Eaton was "always on the look out for potential targets, but has not yet started serious discussion with anybody".

Power distribution is a huge busienss for Eaton Corporation contributing just little 25 per cent of its total turnover which stood at $13 billion in 2007.

Eaton has presence in India since 1999 through its Indian subsidiary, Eaton India, in the all the domains the parent company has, barring the power distribution business where it has very little play.

Kamneyanda said that the parent company, which has in the past doled out anything between $20 million to USD two billion for acquisitions, has not earmarked any amount for the proposed acquisition in India.

"We will go for acquisition if it fits into our strategy. If it makes strategic sense for us. Our aim will be to have the same dimension of business in India as that of our parent company globally," he said.
