East Coast Railway (ECoR) has recorded an average energy savings of 4.88 lakh units per month in the running of electric trains through switching of one or two out of three locomotives during the run of these trains.
The zonal railway has gone for compact fluorescent lights and a new system of street lighting in railway colonies which has helped save energy consumption by 30-40 per cent. It has also used capacitor bank and dynamic reactor power compensation in traction substations.
