Elecon bullish on windmill biz

Signs pact with Centre for Wind Energy Technology.
 
Elecon Engineering, a Gujarat-based manufacturer of bulk material handling equipment and industrial gear, is betting big on the windmill business, and expects to garner revenues of around Rs 40 crore from this business in the current financial year, and Rs 150 crore next year.
 
The company has already signed an agreement with the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-Wet) for the certification of 600Kw windmills. It intends to go in for higher segments in future, besides planning to to sell 50 units a year, which can subsequently be scaled up to 300 units in a phased manner.
 
"There is large demand for windmill gear boxes between 1Mw and 2Mw in India. We plan to foray into 1-2Mw-capacity windmill gear boxes manufacturing," said Hemendra C Shah, vice-president (commercial) and chief financial officer of Elecon Engineering.
 
Elecon Engineering plans to invest about Rs 00 crore in setting up a manufacturing facility for 1-2 Mw windmill gear boxes.
 
"Construction of the facility has already been completed and installation of the machinery is under way. The facility is expected to go on stream in the first quarter of the next financial year," he said.
