Pune-based crane manufacturer Electromech today announced that the company would invest Rs 40 crore for its expansion.
"We will be investing around Rs 30 crore for doubling of our existing plant facility at Pirangut, Pune and Rs 10 crore for setting up a new plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai," Electromech Managing Director Tushar Mehendale told reporters here.
After the expansion, the capacity of the Pune plant would be 2,500 per annum from the existing 2,000 cranes, he said.
On the new plant in Sriperumbudur, he said the facility will be built on an area of around 8,000 sq m and the company would manufacture various industrial cranes like single girder, double girder, stacker and goliath cranes.
Initially, the Chennai plant would have a capacity of 200 cranes per year it and would be upgraded to manufacture 500 cranes by the end of 2010, he said.
"South contributes around 20 per cent of the business across the country and by setting up the Chennai facility the company would save on logistics," he said.
