With credit cards, loans and a recovery agent, ‘Easy Monthly Installments’ (EMI), the Bollywood movie starring Sanjay Dutt, will hit theatres next month. The financial meltdown is expected to boost its ratings.
With the tagline “Liya Hai To Chukana Padega!” (If you have the loan, you have to repay), the movie has Sanjay Dutt in the role of a loan recovery agent, “in a plot that portrays contrasting characters who spend without thinking”.
EMI, which also stars Urmila Matondkar, Arjun Rampal, Aashish Choudhary and Malaika Arora Khan, is a story about characters coming from different backgrounds and styles who live on credit cards and personal loans. It takes a recovery agent, Sattar Bhai (Sanjay Dutt), to make them realise the error of their ways.
Film director Saurabh Kabra said he wanted to release the film around the festive season, when people do more shopping and, therefore, could relate to the film. “We don't want to send any message, but the film is on a subject that is very real and the scenes will make the audience think before opting for a loan next time,” he added.
When asked why he chose Dutt for the role of a loan recovery agent, the director said, “Only Sanjay could have done justice to the role. He suits the image of a ‘bhai’. If he asks somebody to pay the money back to banks, I don’t think anyone could dare to say no.”
Aashish Choudhary, who plays a contemporary, hard -working and ambitious executive in the film, says, “I am from a middle class family ...I bought everything from my television to the car by taking loans and paying in easy instalments. For me, EMIs translated my career into a success. I have not yet faced the harsh realities behind the loan recovery methods, maybe because I am not a defaulter.”
