The Union Ministry of Environment and Forest has so far given environmental clearance to six upcoming power projects in Angul and Dhenkanal districts.
However, two power projects being set up by Lanco Babandh Power company and Essar Power Limited are still to get the requisite clearances as the public consultation for these two projects is not yet over.
According to state pollution control board officials, out of the six projects, two are captive power plants while four are being put up by Independent Power Producers. In the public consultation meetings held for the environmental clearance, local people expressed support for the projects on the condition of proper rehabilitation and environmental protection measures.
These power houses, for which the land acquisition process is in progress, will produce about 8000 Mw of power.
