The EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) tender for the 1980 Mw power plant to be set up by Orissa Thermal Power Corporation Ltd (OTPCL), a joint venture between Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) and Orissa Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC),) is likely to be floated by the end of 2010.

While the site clearance has been obtained from the state water resources department, the OTPCL has applied to the Union coal ministry for coal linkage for the project.

The promoters are in the process of filing the terms of reference (ToR) with the Union ministry of environment and forests (MoEF) for obtaining the environmental clearance, said state energy secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.

Talking to the media after a high level meeting chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik, Jena said, the project would come up at Rengali in Angul district. About 2125 acres land has been identified for the project which would have configuration of 3X660 Mw. Out of the total land requirement, 1700 acres are government land.

The government land includes 1100 acres lying with the water resources department, 150 acres in possession of OHPC and 450 acres revenue land. The remaining 425 acres are private land. As per the site map, the main plant of the project would be located in the government land. This is expected to expedite the construction of the project with minimum load on land acquisition front. If every thing goes as per plan, the project is likely to go on stream in 2014.
