Escorts Limited, the third largest tractor player in the country was eying 10 per cent market share in Gujarat next fiscal from a current 7 per cent.

"As a company, we are currently at number three position in the country with a 12 per cent market share, while we are eyeing the number two slot nationally, we want to have at least double digit market share in Gujarat next fiscal", said Sameer Tandon, head of sales, services and spare parts, Escorts Agri Machinery.

The company has recently launched the Powertrac DS Plus tractor series in the Gujarat market. Tandon claimed that Escorts has managed to bring down fuel consumption in the new range of tractors while retaining its power.

Tractor sales in Gujarat have been weak during the kharif season owing to deficient rains, there has been a drop of as much as 25 per cent in sales. "Overall tractor industry this year has been flat, sales are rather down by 1-1.5 per cent. While north and east have shown steady growth, poor rains in Maharashtra and Gujarat has affected the kharif crop, and, in turn, tractor sales", Tandon said.
