Essar Steel retail aims 45% growth

Essar Hypermart, the retail initiative of Essar Steel, aims 45 per cent growth in sales to 1.6 million tonne of steel in the current fiscal.

"We have sold 1.1 million tonne of steel through Hypermart and Expressmarts and this year we will sell 1.6 million tonne as we are expanding our footprint across India," Essar Hypermart CEO Girish Rao said.

The company has so far opened 100 hypermart and 419 expressmarts in the country. Rao said it will expand to 126 hypermart and 650 expressmarts by March 2011.

Of this, 100 retail outlets would be in eastern India. The market share was expected to increase to 25 per cent from 10 per cent now in east.

Rao said the unique preposition of Essar is to offer one price for its products across one state to enhance transparency in pricing to retail customers.
