Essar wraps up ISPS audit

Essar Shipping has completed an audit for compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.
 
The company has said in a media release that it has successfully completed verification audit on January 22 on two of its ships"" MT Nandu and MT Nand Hari for complying with the code.
 
The audit was carried out by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) who are authorised by the directorate-general of shipping.
 
The ISPS Code is a mandatory international security regulation for ships and port facilities wordlwide, which comes into effect from July 1, 2004 as per the stipulation of the International Maritime Organisation.
 
The code has been evolved in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US.
 
Essar Shipping's ships have been recommended for the issuance of full term certificate by the director general of shipping.
 
Essar Shipping is a sea-logistics company with 32 ships aggregating to 1.35 million dead weight tonne (DWT).
 
The company has a diversified fleet comprising primarily of tankers and bulk carriers. Essar Shipping is a part of the Rs 17,000 crore Essar Group with a presence in steel, power, telecom, oil & gas and constructions.
