FACT switches over to LNG
The captive power plant and the ammonia plant of FACT are now fully operational with the LNG supplied from the newly-commissioned Petronet LNG terminal at Kochi
BS Reporter Chennai Kochi-based Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) has fully switched over to LNG (liquid nitrogen gas). The captive power plant and the ammonia plant of FACT are now fully operational with the LNG supplied from the newly-commissioned Petronet LNG terminal at Kochi. The company has invested Rs 34 crore and Rs 13 crore respectively in modernising its ammonia plant and captive power plant boiler facilities, to switch over to re-gasified liquid natural gas (RLNG).
In fertiliser manufacturing, FACT now has the unique distinction of using all three solid, liquid and gaseous feedstock for production of ammonia, a major raw material for all fertilisers. FACT has used firewood initially in the 1940s. However, it later switched over to naphtha and now to RLNG for ammonia production, a press release said.
