Leading infrastructure consultant Feedback Ventures has been engaged by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) to prepare blueprint for the most suitable system of input-based power transmission and distribution in urban areas of the state.
“We have appointed Feedback Ventures as our consultant for the project,” UPPCL Additional Managing Director Narendra Bhushan told Business Standard.
The franchisee system will be implemented in a phased manner. To begin with, four cities Allahabad, Kanpur, Varanasi and Bareilly are likely to be taken up since they account for maximum line and transmission losses.
The franchisees, to be selected after bidding, will be allotted electricity units by UPPCL at a fixed price and they will realise revenue from consumers and in turn repay the government for a profit.
A meeting between Feedback Ventures and UPPCL is also scheduled for tomorrow to finalise the modalities related to the task, Bhushan informed.
The consultancy firm will prepare exhaustive terms and conditions for the private parties to be subsequently appointed as franchisees under the system.

Meanwhile, UPPCL employees are opposing the proposed system. They claim it had proved to be failure at other places in the country.
“The franchisee system is in place at Bhiwandi, Maharashtra only,” Power Employees Joint Action Committee spokesperson Shailendra Dubey said.
