Fin services top job generator in tier II, III cities

Jaipur has emerged the lead employment provider among tier II cities in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2011-12 with a share of 58.5 per cent followed by Pune and Surat at 10.2 per cent and 5.2 per cent respectively.

In a study Rs Emerging Employment Centre in Tier II & Tier III Cities’, brought out by the Assocham, it has been highlighted that top five employment-generating sectors in Jaipur comprised IT & ITeS, banking, education and energy during the January - March period.

The top five sectors in Pune include education, banking, hospitality, insurance and ITeS. In case of Surat, these are infrastructure, ITeS, banking, financial services and insurance, according to the study.

Releasing the study, the Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said, among tier III cities, Kozhikode has emerged the top employment provider with a share of 227 per cent. The cities of Ambala and Dehradun were ranked second and third constituting 123.8 per cent and 26.7 per cent of the total vacancies offered.

In Kozhikode, the top five sectors which created maximum job prospects include ITeS, automobile, banking, engineering and insurance. In case of Dehra Dun, these are academics, automobile, insurance, banking and ITeS, and in the case of Ambala, it was banking, biotechnology, financial services, FMCG, and insurance that have provided big employment opportunities.

The tier II cities, including Jaipur, Pune and Surat recorded maximum vacancies in insurance companies, banks, insurance, ITeS and education. Among tier III cities Kozhikode, Ambala and Dehra Dun provided highest job openings in finance-related jobs followed by academics.

Among tier II and tier III cities, financial services sector provided maximum employment opportunities. The sector contributed 21.5 per cent and 26.5 per cent in tier II and tier III cities respectively in terms of job openings.

The IT and IT-enabled services provided maximum job openings in Jaipur, Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad and Nagpur. The low-cost cities of Dehra Dun, Mangalore, Jalandhar and Aurangabad are the most sought-after by IT firms amongst tier III cities, the study said.

The prominent tier II cities that have provided maximum employment opportunity in the education sector include Lucknow, Pune and Jaipur.

In tier III cities, research and consultancy offered 4.5 per cent of the vacancies to the aspirants. It occupied the fifth rank among the top employment providers in tier III cities of Ranchi, Aurangabad, Bhubaneshwar, Coimbatore and Indore.
