Adani Agro Logistics Ltd today launched the country’s first bulk foodgrain rake at Sollu Majra village on Dhand-Kaithal Road in district Kaithal in Haryana. This is the first time that a private player, in synergy with Food Corporation of India, has put up state-of-the-art infrastructure for storing and transporting wheat.

The total cost of the project is Rs 650 crore; that includes two mother silos (one each at Kaithal in Haryana and Moga in Punjab) and five baby silos at Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Navi Mumbai and Hooghly, and includes a railway track of about 3 km, connected to the Kurukshetra-Delhi rail track.

The total capacity of the entire network is 650,000 million tonnes. The specially designed rake is a state-of-the-art wagon loading system that allows wagons to be filled at 700 metric tonnes per hour and takes 2 minutes 30 seconds to fill the wagon.

Adani Agri Logistics has specially designed the top loading bottom discharge rail cars to move foodgrain in bulk from storage depots to field depots without any spillage. The wagons are rodent-proof and sealed in a manner such that not moisture can enter.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of the flagging off of the first bulk food grain rake, FCI Chairman Alok Sinha said that the farmers would get a bonus of Rs 19 per quintal for getting their crop here. He added that this world-class facility would reduce pilferage, and the cost of guunybags used for storage and handling.
