As the American Ford company battles with the Indian reality to set up its ambitious $250 million Himalayan ski village, it now must appease a local deity to push its dream project.

Villagers say 'Jamlu', the chief deity of the scenic Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh, has now objected through his oracle (or medium) to the American company's ambitious plan of acquiring a huge patch of land in the valley.

The oracle spoke his objections in the local dialect and attributed them to Jamlu the deity, "The ski village will pollute the local culture and sacred spots on hill tops which belongs to deities who overlook their disciples."

"Besides a huge area will be fenced of by the company which will snatch the traditional rights of the peasants," warned Jamlu the deity through his oracle, interpreting villages told waiting reporters at Batahar village some 250 km here late Thursday.

The oracle said the deity has also called for a meeting of the prominent deities of the valley to ponder on the issue. The Kullu valley is widely known for its 300 or so village deities whose centuries old artistic idols are carried by their staunch followers in palanquins in this mountainous region.
