From Gucci, Chanel to Adidas, Kylie Jenners - Know 2016's fashion, trend setters

Everyone needs a dose of glamour in their lives. Before the curtains fall over the year 2016, we have compiled the year's top search trends across fashion, beauty, and pop culture influencers through a Polyvore's 2016 trend report.

Fashion, which is constantly evolving, has been defined in myriad ways by visionaries and style moguls from around the world. Clothes, accessories, et al cut by top couturier to fit them to perfection, have always been in demand. This year, India too has followed the global fashion trends very closely.

This year Kylie Jenner kept the Balmain-clad Kardashian klan in the lime light. While her attires have been an inspiration, she has also been rated as one of the top Female Fashion Icon of 2016. Her Lip Kits, Kyliner and nail polish collections are constantly sold out.

Here is the list of celebrities who set fashion trends this year, according to their rank:

Kylie Jenner for bomber jackets, jumpsuits, crop tops, thigh high boots, bustier dresses

Rihanna for Puma Creepers, Off-shoulder tops, kimonos, fringe sandals

Kendall Jenner for Varsity jackets, peach dresses, sheer crop tops, belted dresses, bomber jackets

Gigi Hadid for Lace tops, crochet dresses, suede hats, boyfriend sweaters, canvas tote bags

Selena Gomez for Plat loafers, paid skirts, tunic dresses, over-the-knee boots, Denim crop tops

Top male fashion icons included Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Drake, David Bowie and Niall Horan. Drake has witnessed +31 since 2015. Harry Styles has topped the list, beating Justin Bieber by 56 per cent.

Sneakers, not stilettos:

Surprisingly, sneakers, not stilettos, grabbed eyeballs this year. Adidas Superstar was named as 2016's must-have. Searches for footwear favourites like Nike Air Max Thea spiked 71% and slip-on sneakers spiked 85% this year. Spike in searches for bomber jackets and mesh leggings proves that comfort is key. Retro styles have also been searched for. Throwback favourites like Adidas Superstar (+286%), Choker Necklaces (+150%) and Mini Backpacks (+68%) saw major spikes when compared to 2015.

Luxury, Luxury, Luxury

This year, many of the popular luxury brands made it to the top. Handbags by Gucci, Chanel, Fendi and Givenchy were searched extensively. Gucci garnered 33 per cent more searches than second-ranked Chanel for its Boston Bag. Considering the spike in searches, it seems luxury fashion brands have adapted for the digital age.

Nude lipstick/ beauty brands:

Searches for red shade increased 553% and matte lipstick increased 267%. Mac's Nude Lipstick, Nars' Orgasm Blush and Urban Decay's Naked Palette topped the list of beauty brands.

Nude Lipstick, Adidas Superstar and fashion icon Rihanna are most searched in the US. In India, Kylie Jenner, Rose lipstick and Nude pumps are most hunted.
