In view of oil & gas infrastructure facilities safety and operational controls, Gail has proactively taken steps with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for formation of an exclusive cell for development of BIS standards for high-pressure oil and gas transmission pipeline systems. According to a release issued by Gail to the BSE, the petroleum and natural gas ministry has supported the initiative by requesting the Department of Consumer Affairs to assign "Priority One" to this task. According to Gail these national standards would be in line with similar international standards such as the American Petroleum Institute (API) and European Standards (EN).
