Gail, Powergrid and Railtel today signed a memorandum of understanding to form a consortium for offering bandwidth for e-entertainment, e-education and e-medicine.The consortium network, which would provide connectivity to even the remote north-east and Jammu and Kashmir, would be second only to Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL)."Our coming together is for offering reliable, quality and affordable services," R P Singh, chairman and managing director of Powergrid, said.The consortium will primarily focus on the entertainment sector, and is aiming at Rs 1,000 crore revenue from the business by 2008."We can (perhaps) get into national and international long distance telephony at some stage," K K Bajpayee, managing director of Railtel, said.Proshanto Banerjee, chairman of Gail, said the consotrium would be given shape in the next three months time, and a viable business model will be worked out on the basis of revenue sharing.
