GAIL (India) has signed a memorandum of co-operation (MoC) with Canada-based Ergo Exergy Technologies Inc for for commercial underground coal gasification (UCG) projects. According to a release issued by GAIL to the BSE today, the MoC was signed by B.S. Negi, director (planning) of GAIL and M.S. Blinderman, CEO of Ergo Exergy Technologies."The two companies will cooperate for implementation of UCG projects in the context of exploitation of various coal/lignite resources in India for various geological conditions with proper consideration for environmental implications," the release said.Ergo Exergy will provide its proprietary UCG technology for commercial projects. "Ergo Exergy will help GAIL determine the technical and economic viability of the projects, effective and efficient drilling techniques and production of UCG gas in commercial quantities with quality and consistency for fuelling a commercial combined cycle power plant," the release said.
