Gangotri Textiles Private Limited (GTPL), the Coimbatore-based textile and readymade apparel company, is investing about Rs 18-20 crore to double capacity and set up its second captive windmill by mid-2005.

Speaking to Business Standard, GTPL managing director Manoj Kumar Tibrewal said, "We are doubling the production capacity of our Coimbatore plant from 1.5 lakh to 3 lakh garments a year and to cut our power costs we will be setting up our second wind-mill. The captive power plant will generate 1.6 mw of electricity and is scheduled to be complete by March 2005." The company is funding its plans through a term loan from State Bank of India and internal accruals.

GTPL has three open-end spinning units, two of which are in Coimbatore and one in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It also operates a sophisticated ring-spinning unit set-up at Udumalpet, near Palani, and a garment-washing unit in Perundurai.

"In addition to producing large volumes of recycled cotton waste, we produce 17,500 tonnes of cotton yarn per annum and this is number will increase to 22,500 tonnes in 2004-05," Tibrewal said.

GTPL has interests in cotton yarn manufacturing, recycling of cotton waste and has ventured into the readymade apparel market through its division "" Gangotri Apparels. It launched its readymade apparel brand, Tibre in 1999 in the southern markets.

Recently, it took the brand to Maharashtra and plans to launch it in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. "Tibre is a fairly successful brand and we plan on introducing the brand across the country by making it available in double the number of stores from 450 at present to 900 by December 2005," added Tibrewal.

Gangotri Apparels has chalked out elaborate marketing, promotional and export plans for Tibre. "Our plan is to export 50,000 units of Tibre to Middle-east, Canada, Europe and US. To increase our domestic brand presence we plan to spend Rs 3 crore on advertising," Tibrewal pointed out.

GTPL, which registered revenues of Rs 180 crore in 2003-04, has targeted Rs 190 crore as the turnover target for 2004-05.
