The West Bengal Garment Manufacturers and Dealers Association (WBGMDA) has urged the West Bengal government to withdraw textile licence under the West Bengal Cotton Cloth & Yarn Control Order, 1060.

The organisation also wants municipality trade unions to be scratched, which, according to R C Tewari, chairman WBGMDA, was hampering the day-to-day functioning of small garment units.

The body also asked for a change in taxation system for a partnership firm, which is generally a family business and needs favourable treatment.

Tewari mandatory submission of C-Form for inter-state sale of readymade garments in terms of the amendment to the Central Sales Tax Act in 2001 should be kept in abeyance.

The chairman also said readymade garments should attract all taxes at the minimum rate.

Textile Cess under the Textile Committee Act on ready-made garments should also be withdrawn.

"A separate and simplified labour law for small scale industries like ready-made garment industry should be enhance," he added.
