In a bid to assist CIOs of government and public enterprises in driving cost containment and innovation, IT research and advisory company, Gartner Inc. held a local briefing in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Analysts from the company talked on how to save costs through server virtualisation, manage storage growth, and showcase best practices through software licensing, among other things.
"IT Leaders are confronting reduced revenues and profits and need to restructure their businesses accordingly. Government and public sector enterprise CIOs can set up long-term measurement and IT cost management programs to avoid cost optimization becoming a one-time tactical effort. These programs will enable IT departments to break free from being perceived as cost centers, and instead enable them to be perceived as a value driver," said Bhavish Sood, principal research analyst, Gartner.
The briefing was divided in three sessions namely 'Server Virtualisation-Trends, Best Practices and the Future', 'Changing Storage Technologies: Where to Invest to Save Costs?' and 'Best Practices For Software Licensing and Contracting'.
The first session saw analysis of opportunities that will help IT leaders understand the current adoption trends in India including the key drivers and inhibitors. In the second session, Aman Munglani, principal research analyst at Gartner examined the current challenges in storage, and what are the emerging storage hardware technologies. Munglani also talked about best practices for implementing a data life cycle management plan.
