The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) aims to boost sales by 20 per cent to Rs 6,000 crore in the financial year 2008-09.
The federation expects most of the growth to come from the packaged milk segment. GCMMF earns more than a third of its revenues from liquid milk. “We want to focus more on liquid milk as there is a tremendous potential in the segment,” says R S Sodhi, chief general manager, GCMMF.
While the federation launched pouched milk in new cities like Jaipur, it plans to enter other markets outside Gujarat in the coming days. “With new products being launched, the flavoured milk segment has seen an exponential increase of 39 per cent,” says a senior GCMMF official. “Sales of Amul milk in pouches have grown by 48 per cent in value terms. UHT milk has also shown an impressive growth of 60 per cent”.
Besides, retailing will be another area the federation is looking at. The company plans to set up 10,000 additional retail outlets by March 2009.
