Germany based GEA Group, product and system providers for food and energy processes has set up a manufacturing facility in Chakan near Pune.
The company has invested Rs 100 crore for this plant which is spreaded over six acres of land. The plant will manufacture Plate Heat Exchangers (PHE) of all types and will cater to India and Asia Pacific Markets.
GEA is expanding its portfolio in Asia Pacific region in the countries like China, India, Malaysia, Singapore. Company's 10 per cent revenue comes from this region.
It manufactures the heat exchange plates for the industrial sectors like food and beverages, Pharmaceuticals, oil and gas,energy, milk and sugar. It aims to notch-up turnover of over Rs 350 crore by 2014. GEA generates 70 per cent of its revenue from food and energy industries.
Commenting on this development, K.P Glockner, President and Spokesperson, GEA PHE Systems said, "It’s aligned with our global strategy of investing in growth markets. We have specifically located the plant in Pune because of its proximity to Mumbai and availability of good infrastructure and man-power. This new plant will open new employment opportunities for approximately a hundred people."
The plant is designed to cater to both assembly line production and batch wise production. And will have around 60 to 100 per cent localisation depending on the product.
Mik Hansen, Regional Director Asia Pacific, GEA PHE Systems, said,"We are optimistic about our new plant in India, as the Indian market is the second largest market for us in the Asia Pacific region. Our technologies are applied in dairy, food, chemical, petrochemical, starch, refinery, fertilizer, polyester, beverage, pharmaceutical and biotech industries. We are capable of functioning as a total PHE product solution provider - from "Concept to Commissioning" covering design engineering and manufacturing".
