General Motors India today reported 25 per cent increase in July sales at 5,706 units against 4,570 units during the same month last year.

The company said July 2008 sales comprised 3,570 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 921 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 501 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 344 units of the Chevrolet Optra, and 370 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.

"The monthly surge in sales figures is primarily driven by the Chevrolet Spark which has emerged as a great value for money proposition," the company said in a statement.

"Despite a sluggish market, our positive monthly sales figure is a clear indication of the success of our carlines. Chevrolet Spark has made serious inroads in the Indian small car segment," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said.

He said to meet the increasing demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles, the company is on a network expansion drive and aimed to set up a total of 190 sales and service points across the country by the end of this year.
