Carmaker General Motors India today said its sales grew six per cent to 9,984 units in January 2011 from 9,421 units in the same month of the previous year.

"The increase in sales was primarily driven by the response to Chevrolet Beat, Spark and Cruze... Introduction of best-in-segment cars from the 300 series and increase in customer outreach through distribution network," GM India Vice-President P Balendran said in a statement.

Chevrolet cashless ownership offer and promise to deliver quality and performance are the factors that have led to the impressive sales, he added.

In January this year, the company sold 3,272 Spark hatchbacks, 715 Cruze sedans and 3,345 units of compact car Beat, the statement said.

It also sold 331 units of its premium hatchback, Aveo U- Va, 243 units of entry-level sedan Aveo, 296 units of mid- sized sedan Optra, 1,691 units of multi-utility vehicle Tavera and 91 units of its Captiva SUV.

The year 2011 marks the completion of 100 years of Chevrolet's operations globally and the company has completed 14 years of operations in India.
