Geodesic bags project for stand at F1 track

Bangalore-based Geodesic Techniques, a builder of steel roof structures, has bagged a contract from Jaypee Sports International to construct roof structure for the F1 Grand Stand at the country’s first F1 circuit in Greater Noida at a cost of Rs 15 crore.

Geodesic will build a roof structure that spreads over 65,000 square meters of area and covers a seating area for over 30,000 people. This project will incorporate more than 1,200 tonnes of steel and is due to be completed by mid-2011, the company said in a statement.

The F1 grand stand will soon join the list of landmark steel structures and projects of Geodesic including the Delhi Airport Terminal 3, Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Delhi Airport Terminal 1D, and Mumbai’s Terminal 2B.

Hermann Tilke, a German racetrack designer has designed the proposed 5.14 km track, which will come up at Greater Noida. Tilke has so far designed the F1 circuits in Malaysia, Bahrain, China, Turkey, UAE and South Korea.

Besides F1, the track will accommodate MotoGP and super bike races as well. Geodesic has set up a production facility at Bidar to fabricate structural steel frames.
