German cordless phone manufacturer Gigaset Communications has appointed an Indian as chief executive officer for Middle East Africa and India.

Shahzad Ahmed has been appointed following the launch of the company's operations in several locations around the region.

Shahzad was promoted to CEO (MEA and India) from the position of Director (marketing) of Gigaset Communications (formerly Siemens Home and Office Communication Devices).

Headquartered at Munich, Germany, Gigaset Communications is one of the world's largest manufacturers of cordless phones, and a market leader in Europe for cordless DECT phones.

In his function as CEO, Shahzad will be responsible for business operations in the region, which include sales and marketing management, as well as other key functions.

Shahzad has over 20 years of international marketing & sales experience with multinational electronics companies.

Before joining Gigaset Communications, he has worked as head of marketing at Samsung, Siemens mobile and LG.

Shahzad holds a Master of Business Administration degree, and has been based in Dubai for the past 11 years.

Outlining his plans for the future, Shahzad said, "We intend to be a market leader in cordless telephony not just in the UAE but in the entire region. We also intend to establish our presence at the retail as well as the operator level in all these markets."

"I am proud and excited to be a part of the company that is growing at 40 per cent in the Middle East market, which is not growing more than 5 per cent. We believe in innovations in technology and we will continue on that path," he added.
