GG Chem plans to expand Mohali units

GG Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals, doing contract manufacturing of drug intermediates, has plans for bulk drug manufacturing in its two existing units at Derabassi, Mohali.
 
The company has applied for the licence and, with the expansion, expects to have an annual turnover of Rs 12 crore in this financial year from Rs 6 crore it earned in 2005-06.
 
Emerging as a potential base for contract manufacturing G.G.Chemicals and Pharmaceutical is currently catering to Ranbaxy Laboratories limited, Aurobindo Pharma Limited, Nectar Life Sciences Limited,Lupin Laboratories Limited etc . The two units spread over 3 acres and employing 120 people has a monthly capacity of 80kl .
 
Speaking to Business Standard, Gopal Gupta, Managing Director GG Chemicals and Pharmaceutical said that the global pharmaceutical boom made him venture into the sector three years ago, carrying along with the existing business of plastic moulding.
 
"There is a huge market to cover and the daily challenge of bringing new process and intermediates in the market is what I enjoy," he said while showing his writing pads in which he dedicately jots pharmaceutical terminology, chemical names, process, buyers name, raw material etc.
 
With the current exports limited to China, African and Latin American countries Gupta said that a calculated risk on either going in for a joint venture, setting a unit abroad or even going in for an FDA approved unit has to be taken by the company in the coming years to further on expand its wing.
 
"We will be focusiing on the pharma units as we experience a huge growth," he added.
 
Gupta's other unit Punjab Telenet Cables Limited spread over 3 acres in Dearabassi is currently doing contract manufacturing for Nilkamal Plastics limited manufacturers of moulded plastic chairs, tables, and crates.
 
The current capacity of the unit is to maufacture 3000 chairs per day. Giving employment to 60 people Punjab Telenet Cables Limited expects to do a turnover of Rs 10 crore this fiscal.
