GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) will now focus on the flyers from Central India and attract them to travel to and from Hyderabad in a bid to increase the traffic passing through the terminal.

The initiative will be part of company’s “Fly via Hyderabad” campaign that has been launched to make the GHIAL airport an important air traffic hub and an alternative to Mumbai airport for the flyers from Chhattisgarh. The air passengers travelling to South and other destinations are catching flights from Mumbai.

“After launching the programme in many cities including Pune, Aurangabad, Kochi, Madhurai, and Bhubaneswar, our focus will now be the Central India,” Vikram R Jaisinghani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GHIAL, said here on Friday. To start with, Raipur will be the first destination of the campaign.

Jaisinghani said after Raipur, they would launch the campaign in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Nagpur (Maharashtra).

The company had also launched relationship programme for the travel agents to offer seamless travel for passengers from Raipur to Hyderabad and on to their final destinations, he said, adding that they saw huge potential in the state to divert the flyers to fly via Hyderabad.

“At present, 124,000 passengers are flying between Raipur and Hyderabad every year while 26,000 passengers every year land in Hyderabad from Raipur to catch connecting flight,” Jaisinghani said. A few airliners are also planning to connect Raipur with cities in the South, he added.
