Different ginners associations have decided to postpone the indefinite strike after they received positive reply from the government. Ginners in India had announced their intention to go on an indefinite strike from 5 May to protest against government's move to halt registration of new cotton export contracts.
“Some of our representatives met the government and they have received positive response from it. As a result, so we are not going ahead with our plans to launch an indefinite strike from 5th May. We will wait for some more time and will discuss it with other associations,” said Bharat Wala, president, Saurashtra Ginners Association (SGA).
In the wake of government suspending new registrations of raw cotton for export to moderate spiralling price of the commodity, SGA had called for an indefinite strike from 5 May.
Other ginners associations across the India, too, landed their support to SGA. But after meeting with commerce ministry few days back, ginners decided not to go on strike as government assured them to take action as soon as possible.
“Recently government allowed exports of 12.5 lakh bales, registration of which was done prior to suspension of new registration. Remaining 12 lakh bales will be shipped soon. This is a positive sign for us,” he added.
He said that we will hold meeting with ginners associations from various states and will take decide on future course of action after holding discussion with them.
